Wealth, luck and stars: maybe do this before you start investing

Disclaimer: This is NOT financial advice—just some fun (but maybe useful?) food for thought. Take what resonates, leave what doesn’t!

By investing, I mean putting your monies into the stock market, starting a business or trading or big monies decision.

And that is…

Get your bazi or astrology reading done

I know this sounds silly but hear me out.

Not everyone can make money starting their own businesses or some people thrive in certain industries or locations. Then maybe some years it’s better to lay low or aim high. Maybe if your wealth luck not so good then you can either be prepared or work harder to overcome it.

Bazi and astrology may give you insights to these things.

In a way, it’s a bit like a shortcut to understanding your risk tolerance or investment style.

BTW, I’m totally NOT selling you anything bc even I get my readings done from practitionerslah.

Despite what I just said,

I don’t think anyone should be fully invested in this woo woo thingy. As in spend thousands on sus sifu advice or talismans and the likes.

After all, heavenly fate is just a fraction of your luck! Other factors do play a role in your life outcome such as:

1) Your surroundings (you are the average of your closest peers)

2) Your mindset (because mind over matter)

3) The effort you put into (fate is in your hands and can very well change)

Some analogies,

One person has moderate wealth luck compared to his peers. Maybe his friends hit millionaire status quickly, while he can afford a home, car, and a comfortable life for his family—but not extreme riches. If he works harder, he might become a millionaire later in life. So even if a chart isn’t “great”, success is still possible—it just depends on whether you're willing to put in the effort to move mountains.

Now, another case: someone with terrible luck and poor decision-making. Instead of improving skills or making better financial choices, they spend thousands on get-rich talismans while still splurging to “look rich”. When good job opportunities come, they choose to stay stuck—then wonder why their luck never improves.

The first story? I read it somewhere online (I think). The second? I heard it twice—both real cases from friends of friends.

For myself,

I actually don’t know the detailed details of my wealth luck. I did have my readings years ago and only remembered a few things:

1) I’ll have to work hard to earn my monies. Very true🥲

2) I’d do well in sales or roles involving communications

3) I’d build my wealth over time, not by sheer luck. Bye bye my lottery dreams. Actually I still have no idea how to buy lottery.

On the flip side, doesn’t this sound like Warren Buffett’s approach to building wealth? May the 8th wonder of the world aka the power of compounding works its magic for me 🙏🏻

4) My wealth direction is south-idk which direction. But south-wise. So maybe I should build an income source from Singapore lol. Now you know why I go for SREITs 🤑

On a more practical note,

If instead you’re looking for a less woo woo takes on what to do before putting your monies on an investment, here are some points I can think of:

1. Ensure you’re in a rational state of mind and emotions

2. Understand what you’re getting into and not just blindly following “hot stocks” or buying into “guaranteed return”

3. Understand your own risk tolerance

4. Have risk management in place. Ie. Have liquid emergency funds before putting monies into stock market or when to cut loss if not HODL

I’m curious though,

Does anyone else take guidance from bazi, feng shui, astrology or the likes? Share your stories!
