New Year’s Reset

As I was planning my year past few weeks, I fed myself with tons of videos to answer some of my questions on habits, routine, purposes, personal finance for inspiration.

Questions for myself

I was sitting on quite a number of questions at the start of the year and truthfully, I don't have a solid game plans or answers to them. Some thoughts in my head:

  • Where am I in my life milestones compared to others of the same age? (I’m not comparing bc insecurities but out of curiosity. Also, it’s good to have benchmarks)
  • Am I doing enough to achieve my financial freedom milestones?
  • Auditing my personal finance. Am I too lax?
  • What can I do to improve while Keeping It Simple & Stupid (K.I.S.S.)? So that they’re not overwhelming and I can do it consistently.
  • How do I reset both my mind and routine to a healthier one after a whole year of messed up routine from the overworking situation?

Some videos for New Year’s Resolution Building

Maria Trappen’s I change my life in 6 months & you can too.

This is what I’d love to share to some of my younger peers (or even my younger self).

Ali Abdaal’s How to Not Waste Your Life (Stop Getting Distracted) and 6 Habits to Make 2025 Your Best Year.

Ali is one of the best self-improvement content creators on YouTube and there are quite a number of pointers on the first video I’m taking note on _the time locking and that pie chart! Also on listing down truths and creating future truths which is somewhat similar to Maria’s create your persona point.

Closing out 2024

Going to jump straight to the point _ generally in the personal finance is good and I actually completed my list from the first blog post Money Plans for the Remaining of 2024.

What didn't went well
  • Unexpected expense AppleCare+ Plan of RM699. I still have to replace my screen protector and get a impact resistance case.
  • Bought more jewelry and a handbag.
  • Didn't buy or DCA into stocks with the excuse, "many are at ATH"

What didn’t go so well in the last quarter of 2024 is my shopping habits. The large expenses is off the chart and I’m not proud to say I did the exact opposite of what I wrote. Very uncharacteristic of me but I bought a branded handbag, one too many in a year. Reminding myself to be mindful about consumerism.

Despite some things in 2024 that didn't go well such as being overworked, there were other wins that made the year worth it.

There has been some change for my work and plans scribbled on the drawing board. Fingers crossed all will go smoothly. Prolly keeping this to myself until end of 2025 provided no changes…

2025 Resolutions

In terms of the investment vehicles, the ones I'd like to continue or start contributing are (not in order):
  • SREITs or SG stocks
  • PRS
  • Additional EPF contribution or ASM
  • Annual charity (if I earn more I’d want to do more!)
  • US stocks or index. FYI I started diversifying to US market only in 2024. Same goes to SREITs.
  • Swing trading

If you followed me on IG, you'd notice there aren't major change compared to my 2024's money plans.

Even I was questioning my lack of diversification but then I came across a post by growingherwealth on "Keep doing what I've been doing" and I thought, consistency doesn't sound so bad. After all, one of the golden advice in long-term investing is keeping it simple and boring. Though of course I'd want to see my ROI increasing year on year.

Some personal finance habits I would like to improve on:
  • More thorough expense auditing. I always practice K.I.S.S. and so if I invested RMx monthly then I don't think too much. However in 2024, I think I went overboard with large expenses (gold, cough cough).
  • DCA diligently. I'm thinking I should get 12 biji VOO! Sebulan sebiji.
  • Low-buy year. I am grateful that I have most things I need for everyday conveniences, even more than enough.
  • Not coming up with a gold jewelry wishlist! Else I may actually get them all *cold sweat

Of course I try to be flexible and see if there are any opportunities that may present themselves. Then you'd see me posting another "Change of plans" kinda post again haha!

On the non-pf related resolutions, I'd like to focus on health by moving more and eating greener. Besides that, I'm trying to come up with a more consistent workout and healthier morning routine without compromising rest. Been looking up inspirations on better routines, advice anyone? Tho don't go 5am morning routine to me, women body works differently and we need tons of rest.

As of this month, there are plans that already are already set in motion. Now it's just to keep the momentum going!

Add oil, everybody!
